Mirrorless Camera : Taking digital photography to the pro level

It has been an exciting few years for cameras. Few major shake up's have changed the landscape of professional photography and we the consumers get to reap the benefits of such changes. The biggest shift  has been the rise of high end "Mirrorless Cameras"  particularly from brands like Sony and Fuji.

Mirrorless Camera is the  the next new chapter in digital photography. These past year's sony became the biggest seller of four frame cameras entirely on the strength of it's mirrorless designs. This spurred other brands like Canon and Nikon to jump into the market with their  mirrrorless range.

What exactly makes the camera mirrorless and why would you pick  one style over the other.

A mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera (MILC) simply  callled mirrorless camera, features a single, removable lens and uses a digital display system rather than an optical viewfinder. The word "mirrorless" indicates that the camera does not have an optical mirror or an optical viewfinder like a conventional digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR), but an electronic viewfinder which displays what the camera image sensor sees.

In the mirrorless camera, light passes through the lens and right onto the image sensor, which captures a preview of the image to display on the screen inside an electronic viewfinder (EVF) that we can put our eye to.

Comparative Features: Mirrorless Camera versus DSLR camera

 1. Size and weight:
Mirrorless camera is a winner in this case as it can be carried more easily and fit more gear, such as extra lenses into a camera bag as compared to its DSLR counterparts.

2. Auto focus speed:
Both DSLR's and mirrorless camera offer steady focus with mirrorless camera offering hybrid sensors that use both phase and contrast detection on the sensor.

3. Previewing images:
With a mirrorless camera, we get a preview of the image on screen. Some mirrorless cameras offer an electronic viewfinder (EVF) the stimulates the optical viewfinder. While with the DSLR ,the lens optical viewfinder shows exactly what the camera will capture. for many situations, both types of cameras provides us with very capable viewfinders.

4. Image Stabilization:
Technology of Image stabilization is equivalent in both DSLR and mirrorless camera types.

5. Image Quality:
With equivalent sensors and image processors, both DSLR and mirrorless camera types can take great photos.

6. Video Quality:
With superior autofocus in most models mirrorless cameras provide the best results.

7. Shooting Speed:
The simpler mechanism of mirrorless cameras allow them to shoot more photos per second, at high shutter speed.

8. Image and Video playback:
Both DSLR and mirrorless camera types offer large screens and video outputs and some offers wi-fi connection to smartphones for quick image sharing.

9. Battery life:
DSLR's offers the ability to shoot without using LCD screen or EVF, which can extend the battery life.

10. Durability:
Both DSLR and mirrorless camera  types offers models that are hardened against elements.

Conclusion:

A mirrorless interchangeable lens camera is an alternative to the digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR).Getting rid of the mirrors traditionally placed inside the high-end cameras gets the lens closer to the sensor and paves the way to several innovations.
