iPadOS : Inching Apple's iPad lineup closer to tablet computers.
iPadOS is the new name given to the operating system created and developed by Apple Inc. specially designed for its ipad line. Apple's new iPad software includes a bunch of attractive features designed to boost productivity. This makes iPadOS the most important of all software updates announced by Apple during its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC).
The iPadOS is the company's fifth operating system and present a sort of middle ground between iOS and the desktop based MacOS.
There is no amount of doubts about the capability of the current supported system hardware in iPad nor the areas where it excels over other computing solutions. The iPadOS tends to bridge the tablet - laptop gulf. It makes the iPad a better tablet but not a laptop but with innovations round the corner ,it may become more plausible replacement for laptops. The iPad's primary advantages are platform versatility and modularity. Recent changes in iPadOS appears universally welcome as it does make major changes to multitasking that'll make a big difference. The ability for apps to display several instances of themselves across available spaces is also going to be useful.
FEATURES:
New Home Screen
iPadOS brings a redesigned home screen with a new layout that allows room for more apps on the screen. It also lets you add widgets from the Today View on the home screen so you can easily glance at useful information such as headlines, weather, calendar and event without having to swipe to the dedicated Today View space.
New ways to multitask
Multitasking is easily one of the most important aspects and prerequisites of an iPad and with iPadOS, Apple announced a bunch of new ways to do that. iPad users can now work with multiple files and documents from the same app with Split View. For example, you can compose and email while viewing another email in splitscreen view. You can also quickly switch between multiple apps like Messages or Calendar in Slide Over.
Apple Pencil is more useful
The Apple Pencil is an important tool for any pro iPad user, which is why Apple has made a few improvements here as well. Firstly, the latency has been greatly reduced from 20ms to 9ms. Users can now easily grab a screenshot of a web page or document be using the Pencil to swipe from the corner of the screen. Apple has also redesigned the tool palette to give quick access to tools, colour palettes, shapes, object eraser, a new pixel eraser and a ruler.
Files app now supports external drives
When Apple introduced the iPad Pro with a Type-C port, it was meant to open up a new possibilities wherein users could transfer files from any third-party device to the iPad. Unfortunately, Apple greatly restricted what you could do with file transfer. The company is now making some much-needed changes by allowing the Files app to support external USB drives, SD cards or logging into an SMB file server.
iPadOS also brings Dark Mode
In addition to the new iPadOS-exclusive features, the new software also gets a key features of iOS 13 as well. This means system-wide Dark Mode will be coming to the iPad as well, turning the background of the UI and Apple apps true black. Custom fonts can be installed and Photos will curate the library to highlight the best images from the past day, month or year.
Apple also focussed greatly on privacy across its devices. The company announced a Sign In With Apple feature that is an easy and private way to sign into apps and websites using Apple ID and Face ID. Of course, you can also expect performance improvements with iPadOS as well as Apple promises a more responsive Face ID, smaller app download sizes and fast app launches.
Conclusion
Apple has made some distinct changes to its mobile operating system by introducing a separate OS for the iPads: iPadOS. Although the basic foundation for iOS and iPadOS is nearly the same, iPadOS distinguishes the tablet experience from the iPhone experience by adding some new features and redesigning the user interface to better suit the bigger screen on the iPads.
